10 Tips To Prevent Burnout and Compassion Fatigue

10 Tips To Prevent Burnout and Compassion Fatigue

Empaths are naturals for the helping professions, from medicine to teaching.

These jobs feed our giving nature and provide opportunities to tap our sensitivities to offer others healing and insight.

Unfortunately, many also burn out.

Here are 10 self-care strategies to practice both at work and home that will protect you from compassion fatigue so you are not constantly absorbing people’s stress, emotions, or physical symptoms.

Tips to Prevent Burnout and Compassion Fatigue

1. Plan breaks. Take regular five-minute breaks to rest, meditate, or enjoy a walk between appointments. Be careful not to schedule clients back to back, which will quickly lead to burnout.

2. Don’t overbook yourself. If possible, limit the number of clients you see to what feels right. When you’re busy, try not to squeeze in new appointments if you can reschedule them for a lighter day.

3. Eat well. Don’t skip meals and make sure they include protein, which grounds you. Nibbling on protein throughout the day will keep your energy and blood sugar stable.

4. Create a serene workspace. Have a peaceful office. Surround yourself with inspirational sayings, sacred objects, and anything else that brings you peace.

5. Practice deep breathing regularly. Mindful deep breathing clears the negativity you pick up.

6. Fill your office with heart energy. Once or more daily, take a few minutes to focus on your heart chakra, which is in the middle of your chest. Feel that loving energy flow through your body as it balances you. As you do this, the loving energy will overflow and fill the room with warmth and positivity.

7. Set clear boundaries. Firmly and kindly say “no” to the energy vampires in your workplace. Protect your time so you are not drained.

8. Shield yourself. Before you start your day, imagine a shield of white light all around you that protects and allows in only the positive.

9. Detoxify in water. Take Epsom salt baths or shower after a long day to wash away the stress and energies of others you might have absorbed.

10. Have fun outside of work. Allow regular time for play, fun, and recreation. Walking in nature while you enjoy the trees, birds, and plants can revive your joy.

The more you use these strategies, the more energized you’ll feel and the less prone you’ll be to burnout. Then you can really feel the passion and thrill of helping others.

How To Stop Taking On Your Client’s Emotions

How To Stop Taking On Your Client’s Emotions

How do empaths pursue their calling as healers and therapists without being sick, tired, or taking on their client’s emotions and symptoms?

Use these 5 protection strategies below to stop taking on your client’s emotions:

1. Adjust your mindset. Don’t become a martyr. Your role is to be a guide for your clients, not to take on their pain or remove it. When you’re clear about this, you’ll enjoy your work more and have more energy for your soul’s purpose.

2. Identify three obvious differences between you and your client. A great way to distance yourself from a client’s emotions and pain after a session is to focus on three clear differences between you. This helps you to appreciate what’s you and what’s your client’s and creates a boundary that helps prevent you from absorbing unwanted energy.

3. Don’t try to fix people. People heal themselves. You can support your client’s healing, but they must be willing to make the necessary changes to free themselves from suffering.

4. Watch out for codependency. Be careful not to get hooked into feeling responsible for someone’s progress or experience. People change on their own timeline, not yours. Be empathetic but remember you are not responsible for their growth.

5. Work on your own issues. We tend to absorb energy that is related to issues we haven’t resolved in ourselves. Notice when your clients push your emotional triggers. Then ask yourself, “is this person mirroring issues in me that need healing? Focus on healing those triggers and issues in yourself. A good therapist has a good therapist.

Remember to always stay centered in your heart with clients.

Lose Weight for Summer: Easy-to-Follow Weight Loss Strategies

Lose Weight for Summer: Easy-to-Follow Weight Loss Strategies

Summer is just around the corner. It’s time to kick your weight loss goals into high gear. You can lose weight in just a short time for summer without going to a gym or even dieting.

Follow these easy-to-implement weight loss tips to help you shed those last 10 pounds before summertime:

Become more active. Your goal should be to develop healthy habits. By practicing these, you can burn calories without being strapped to an elliptical machine. Choose habits that are simple to maintain, enjoyable, and productive.

Walk the dog rather than letting him out into the yard. Instead of stopping at the coffee shop in your car every morning, wake up a little earlier to walk there before getting ready for work.

Choose activities that are relevant to your life. Then, you’ll feel a commitment to the task. The dog needs to be walked, no matter what. And you definitely want your morning coffee! When you feel dedicated, your efforts are less likely to stagnate.

Get someone else involved. Getting an easygoing workout buddy is a great way to keep activity levels up. Grab a neighbor and walk to the park every day. When at the park, sit on the swings or walk the trails while enjoying conversation. Then – of course – walk home. You’ll be amazed at how many calories you’ll burn!

Eat summery meals. Summery meals are characterized by being refreshing, simple, tasty, and healthy. Even though summer is only peeking through the clouds right now, try to adapt to a summery diet of fruit bowls, spinach salads, grilled chicken, vegetable kebabs, and your other favorite fresh options.

Everyone has cravings for their favorite food, but some choices are better than others. It’s best to feed your sweet tooth now in order to avoid a binge later. Sweet treats like watermelon, frozen yogurt, and grape tomatoes all make for summery, healthy, and satisfying snacks.

Use the grill. If you’re making a Chicken Caesar salad, grill the chicken rather than simply baking or cooking in a pan. This adds visual interest and a nice smoky taste. You can also grill almost any vegetables that are going into the salad.

Prep your meals in advance. Dishes like salads and fruits are easy to prepare ahead and store in an airtight container. Marinate your meat and fish rather than cooking it ahead because it can lose its moisture once cooked.

Losing weight is rarely an overnight task, but it is simple. By breaking it down into manageable slices of effort, your goals are much more attainable. And when summer arrives, you’ll have the leaner, healthier body you deserve!

The good news is that you don’t have to go it alone. Research shows that when you surround yourself with others who have the same or similar goal, you’ll reach your own goal with greater success.

[Affirmations for Weight Loss] My Body Is At The Perfect Weight

[Affirmations for Weight Loss] My Body Is At The Perfect Weight

My Body Is At The Perfect Weight.

My body’s ability to seek out the perfect weight amazes me. I trust my body to find and maintain the best bodyweight for me.

I love to eat healthy foods. By eating well, I give my body the nutrients it requires to keep me healthy. Eating in a healthy manner is one way I support a healthy body weight.

There is a limit to what my body can do on its own. I must do my part, too.

I enjoy exercising. I do cardiovascular exercise that keeps my heart and lungs healthy. I also do resistance training on a regular basis. My tissues are strong and supple. Both types of exercise give my body a greater ability to find and maintain a healthy weight.

My body can only maintain the perfect weight when I eat properly and exercise moderately. I have a role to play and I do my best each day.

I can feel my body gravitating toward the best weight for me. There are times I am either a little too heavy or a little too light. My body easily corrects for these situations. In a short time, I am back to a healthy weight.

Today, I allow myself to move toward a healthy weight. I focus on eating healthy foods and exercise. This gives my body what it needs to regulate my bodyweight. My body is at the perfect weight.

6 Spring Equinox Rituals to Cleanse Your Space of Negative Energy

6 Spring Equinox Rituals to Cleanse Your Space of Negative Energy

If you’ve experienced a challenging Winter, whether you were sick, went through a breakup, or are still feeling the effects of the pandemic, it’s a good time to clear the air and make space inside yourself for the energy of Spring!

While it’s important to keep our homes looking squeaky clean — from windows to baseboards — have you ever thought about spring cleaning your home’s energy? If your space is feeling stagnant, try these six simple cleansing rituals to clear out any negative vibes and bring in new energy for the Spring Equinox.

1. Open the Windows

One of the easiest ways to get rid of trapped toxins and negative energy in your home is to simply open the windows. Start cleansing your home by letting the fresh air in and the bad energy out.

2. Clean Your Entrances

Most of the negative energy comes in with us as we walk through the door, and this is often where it gets stuck. So clean out the unwanted energy by sweeping and cleaning your entryways. Pay special attention to doors and clean the doorknobs.

3. Smudging

BURN DRIED SAGE: The practice of slowly burning herbs and flowers is commonly called smudging, and herbs like white sage have long been used to bring balance and peace to a space. When bundles of dried sage are burned the fragrant smoke is said to burn up toxic energy and bring balance.

When smudging, light your sage bundle and fan the smoke into the corners of the room with your hand or use a feather as you move around the space. Place the still-burning bundle in an abalone shell or a glass bowl or clay dish. Never blow on your sage bundle to fan the smoke.

BURN PALO SANTO: Palo santo is a fragrant wood that’s often burned as incense to combat negative energy and cleanse spaces. You can smudge palo santo the same way you use smudge sticks when you want to move negative energy out of your home. Just light the end of the stick and waft the smoke around your house.

4. Clean With Salt

Salt is an excellent natural cleanser and another common way to remove negative energy from your space. Pour any kind of natural salt in the corners of the rooms you want to cleanse. Give it 48 hours to trap and absorb bad energy then sweep it up. Or, if you have children or animals, fill small bowls and then simply toss the salt after two days.

You can also use a Himalayan salt candle or create your own salt candles for the same toxin-absorbing effect.

5. Incorporate Crystals

Some crystals such as black tourmaline, hematite, and selenite are great at clearing negative energy. Place black tourmaline in the four corners of any room, in window sills, or at the corners of your bed to absorb any toxic and negative energy. Black tourmaline also absorbs electromagnetic energy so keep it next to electronics like computers and TVs.

6. Scent With Essential Oils

Use essential oils to scent the air, boost your mood, and clear negative energy. Diffuse lemon or pine for a natural clean smell. Use sweet orange or lavender for a naturally uplifting effect.

And if smudging is not your thing, make a room spray with sage and citrus essential oils. Add a piece of black tourmaline or fresh sage to the bottle before you add the liquid ingredients to help neutralize negativity. Spritz it in corners and near entryways to purify the air and disperse pent-up energy.

If you’re looking to clear energy, move through blocks and increase your abundance in career and love, hypnotherapy is a powerful modality that heals mind, body, and spirit. Schedule a hypnotherapy session here.
